General Mills recalls frozen green beans due to listeria fears

General Mills has voluntarily recalled around 60,000 packages of Cascadian Farm frozen green beans that could possibly be contaminated with Listeria bacteria.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration noted that the company recalled the product on Wednesday and stressed that although one package did test positive for listeria monocytogenes, no illnesses have been reported at this time.

The recall affects packages that have the “better if used by” dates of 10APR2016 and 11APR2016. They all were manufactured in March 2014.

In April, ice cream maker Blue Bell recalled its products contaminated with a Listeria strain after three people died and more were hospitalized.

Listeria is a food-borne illness. Symptoms can be mild or severe and include fever, muscle aches and sometimes gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or diarrhea, which can last for several days.

The FDA asks that anyone owning a bag containing those dates should throw the product away immediately and contact Cascadian Farm Consumer Relations for replacement vegetables.
