Delta-operated plane catches fire at Nashville International Airport

A SkyWest Delta flight caught fire Friday morning at the Nashville International Airport.

The Tennessean noted that while still on the tarmac that the Cincinnati-bound plane’s engine caught fire around 6:45 a.m. local time.

"The auxiliary power unit caught fire but when they turned the engine back off the fire extinguished itself and the plane was brought back to the gate and all passengers were de-boarded," said Sumrall, according to CNN.

There were no injuries to report.

As bad as the images that flooded on social media looked, witnesses said that it only lasted a few seconds and there was no drama or panic among fellow travelers.

Sumrall said that the plane was up and running again within the hour.

SkyWest was founded in 1972 and is a service provider partnered with several carriers including United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, US Airways, American Airlines and Alaska Airlines. The airline flies to nearly 200 destinations and is headquartered in St. George, Utah.
