'Cosmos' evolution scene accidentally cut from Oklahoma Fox affiliate airing

During Sunday night's Cosmos premiere, an Oklahoma Fox affiliate KOKH accidentally cut into the airing at just the right moment to have removed a direct mention of evolution.

Just as host Neil deGrasse Tyson was about to launch into a certain discussion during his talk about the cosmic calendar, a promo for the evening news was run, reports TheWrap.

What was cut was Tyson saying, "Three and a half million years ago, our ancestors -- yours and mine left these traces. We stood up and parted ways from them. Once we were standing on two feet, our eyes were no longer fixated on the ground."

People began to speculate online that the part was deliberately cut because the state is known to be fairly conservative. However, the Los Angeles Times notes, the Fox affiliate claims the error was simply a human one and not done purposely.

KOKH tweeted that it was simply "an operator error" and apologized.

The Times notes that though the cut part specifically mentions evolution, it certainly wasn't the only time spent on evolution in the first episode of Cosmos.

Other times during the cosmic calendar discussion there are references to evolution and Tyson also broaches the subject when talking about life emerging from the sea for the first time.
