Prince Philip leaves the hospital after surgery

Prince Philip, the husband of Queen Elizabeth II, has left the hospital this morning after successful abdominal surgery. The 92-year-old Duke of Edinburgh looked in good spirits, walking out of the hospital doors unaided.

Prince Philip went into the hospital on June 6 for the scheduled surgery a day later. While it was said that the hospital stay would last two full weeks, he was released on Monday, a bit earlier than planned, notes The Telegraph.

A source for the Telegraph said that he isn’t expected to have to go through another surgery for his condition, which has never been made public. “He is in good spirits and he is very keen to leave, and very grateful to the medical staff and all the well-wishers who have sent him cards,” a Palace source said. “We have received more than 1,000 cards from the public and the Duke is grateful for them all.”

According to CNN, Buckingham Palace said that he will stay at Windsor Castle to recuperate. He’ll convalense for two months.

Philip has made several trips to the hospital recently, including one trip for a bladder infection in June 2012.
