‘One Life to Live’ and ‘All My Children’ online reboots cut to two episodes a week

Prospect Park, the producers behind the One Life To Live and All My Children reboots have quickly learned that viewers do not watch shows on the Internet the same way they do on TV. So, the company decided two weeks in to cut the number of episodes to two a week from four.

The new plan will have OLTL showing up on Hulu and iTunes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, while All My Children will appear on Mondays and Wednesdays, starting on May 20. There will also be a one weekly recap episode instead of two that will be posted on Fridays.

“This allows us to introduce a new episode of quality television every Monday through Friday and gives the audience a chance to catch up as we continue to build awareness and excitement around these new shows,” Prospect Park team Rich Frank and Jeff Kwatinetz said in a statement, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

The move shows that Prospect Park has figured out the hard way that people do not watch one episode at a time on the Internet. Instead, they are more likely to binge watch at the end of a week. According to The Los Angeles Times, the company noted, “Fans have been binge viewing ... and we feel we have been expecting our audience to dedicate what has turned out to be an excessive amount of time to viewing these shows.”

If the current system of four episodes a week for both OLTL and All My Children continued, there would have been 104 episodes combined a year. Both shows will still be just 30-minutes long, although episodes ran for an hour when the shows were on ABC.

Prospect Park said that this wasn't financially motivated, but didn't say how many people are watching the reboots. These shows were originally pulled by ABC because of the declining number of viewers and rising production costs.
