Trucker in Tracy Morgan crash indicted by New Jersey grand jury

The trucker who was behind the wheel in the fatal car crash that injured comedian Tracy Morgan last year has been indicted by a grand jury in New Jersey.

Reuters noted that a Middlesex County jury indicted Kevin Roper on charges of aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide and eight counts of aggravated assault.

Roper was operating the Walmart truck that struck a limosine carrying Morgan and several others from a show in June 2014. The accident left the 30 Rock actor with a brain injury and killed his friend, comedian James “Jimmy Mack” McNair. A chain reaction resulted on the highway from that crash and involved another 21 people and six vehicles.

A federal investiagtion into the crash concluded that Roper had been awake for more than 24 hours and was exceeding the speed limit at the time when the crash occurred. It also found that the injuries may have been even more critical because none of the passengers in the limo were wearing seat belts.

As we previously reported, Morgan later reached a settlement with Walmart for an undisclosed amount.
