WHO releases list of 20 cities with highest pollution levels

The World Health Organization released its 2014 report for the cities with the highest pollution levels and there were a few surprises.

One being that Beijing did not even crack the top 20, which definitely comes as a shock considering that the city just issued a "red alert" over smog levels for the first time ever, Xinhua news agency reported.

USA Today noted that Beijing's average air pollution level is 53 on a scale that's goes up to 208, but that’s nothing compared to the city that ranked No. 1 on the list.

Delhi in India is actually the most-polluted city in the world with a 153 rating, according to the report. In fact, most of the cities on the list are located in the world’s second most-populated country.

Some of the most-polluted cities in the U.S. are Los Angeles and New York, but with a rating of 20 and 14 they did not even come close to making the global list.
