A 3-year-old boy found a handgun and fired a shot that wounded both his father and his pregnant mother.

Fox News reported the shooting occurred in Albuquerque, New Mexico at America’s Best Value Inn. The shot hit his father through the buttock and exited his hip before hitting the eight-month-pregnant woman in the arm.
The police spokesman, Simon Drobik, said it was negligence that led to the shooting since the boy was able to find the handgun easily. He stated, “If you are going to be a gun owner, you need to lock it up and keep it safe, especially around children.”
CNN reported the boy found the gun in a purse belonging to his mother. His father was treated for the gunshot wound before being released and his mother was still in the hospital in stable condition, although the condition of her unborn baby has not been revealed.
The boy, along with his 2-year-old sister, was turned over to Children’s Youth and Families department. Neither of them was hurt in the shooting.
Drobik said the District Attorney would decide if negligence charges would be filed against the parents.
