'The Vampire Diaries' star Steven R. McQueen will no longer be a series regular

Just after the CW picked up many of their hit shows including The Vampire Diaries, we are getting word that a series regular will no longer be appearing on the show.

Entertainment Weekly reported that executive producer Julie Plec revealed Steven R. McQueen, who plays Jeremy Gilbert, will exit in the 14th episode of the current season. He will not be killed off, but will be leaving for school.

Plec said, “It’s time for him to go out and live his right and we’re actually going to say goodbye to Steven R. McQueen as a series regular. He’s growing up and moving on. He will be out living a real life.”

Plec also revealed that this doesn’t mean we won’t see Elena’s little brother at all as the show continues. She said that it is likely he will “show up at weddings, funerals and series finales for sure, but this journey is taking him to another place.”

E! Online reported that while Jeremy has left the show before, and has even been killed off, Plec said she “wouldn’t dare kill Jeremy.” Which is good, considering how loved a character he is.

The show has been picked up for a seventh season and Plec did say more than likely, other actors could decide they are finished. She said that as the show continues telling its stories, that the characters would be making decisions “about what they want with their lives.”

Other shows picked up by CW include The Flash and Jane The Virgin.
