Nicole Kidman reflects on rough 2014 at Sydney 'Paddington' premiere

Actress Nicole Kidman will be looking forward to the end of 2014, even though she's excited about her new movie.

The Guardian reported that Kidman, who stars in Paddington lost her father to a heard attack this year, which left her stunned and grieving. But she persevered and is thrilled to end the year with a movie likely to make viewers smile.

“Personally [it’s been] really, really, really hard," Kidman told the Guardian, of losing her father. "My family underwent a massive tragedy. So not my favorite year.”

Her film Paddington will be released in the U.S. next month. Kidman’s role is a taxidermist who wants to have the much-loved bear stuffed. The film is adapted from the popular children’s book written by Michael Bond.

The A-list actress, who has two daughters with Keith Urban and two adopted children with mega-star Tom Cruise, said she wanted to film a movie that she was comfortable taking her children. “I hadn’t made a film that had made people feel good for a long time,” she said.

Us Weekly reported that the actress also said many of her roles focused on “loss and grief a lot” and being able to make a light-hearted children’s film made her feel good.

While she is Sydney for the film's debut there, Kidman said she would focus on much needed time with her mother, as well as her sister.
