Resurection' Recap: 'Afflictions'

"The episode begins with Agent Bellamy’s (Omar Epps) boss, Angela, having a flashback. She is sitting in an airplane seat in the middle of a field. It seems she was a part of an airplane crash. The flashback is interrupted by a call from Bellamy. He tells her that he’s sick.

Meanwhile, Maggie (Devin Kelley) is having a tough time dealing with the loss of her mom, again. She goes to the Langston’s looking for Margaret (Michelle Fairley). Margaret lies, telling Maggie that she wasn’t with her mother; she says she was in the house all weekend. She adds that the last time she saw Barbara (April Billingsley) was at Fred’s house and suggests that she may have left town. Henry (Kurtwood Smith) chimes in saying that maybe Elaine (Samaire Armstrong) was mistaken when she said she saw her because it was dark.
Margaret later goes to the restaurant/bar where Elaine works and tells her, “I don’t know what you think you saw in the park last night, but I assure you you’re mistaken.”
Margaret adds that Maggie is going through a hard time and is going to need her family and friends. Elaine says she’s always been there for Maggie.

Fred, who found out about Barbara’s disappearance through Maggie, confronts his mom. He asks her what she did to Barbara. She tries to lie to him as well, but doesn’t fall for it.

“You’ve been lying ever since you came back,” Fred tells his mom. She tells him, ""If there's one thing I'm here to do, it's fix this family"" and that the family is better off without Barbara. “What did Barbara ever do for you?” she asks. “She gave me Maggie,” Fred replies.

Marty wakes up at a government facility where he is receiving treatment, after passing out on a bathroom floor. His boss had him sent there. The doctor tells him that the virus seems to be a mutated version of the Spanish Flu and it’s only spreading in the returned. He tells him that an injection of an experimental treatment won’t cure the virus, but will help repress the symptoms and delay the process of the virus. The virus also won’t be contagious. However, Bellamy tells the doctor that he wants answers from Angela first. The doctor informs him that if he waits too long, he will get too sick and will eventually disappear.

When Bellamy meets with Angela, she tells him that they believe the virus was brought back from one of the returned from the 1900s. She says so far they have lost 66 returned due to the virus. She also adds that the virus has a 23 percent survival rate. Angela tells Bellamy that she is a statistician and that it is important that they retrieve data about the virus and how the returned respond to the treatment. While Bellamy is getting injected, she notices the birth mark on the back of Bellamy’s neck and relates it back to the family that was looking for their son.

Over at the factory Henry and Jacob (Landon Gimenez) are making plans to re-open the factory and also reminiscing on the old factory. Outside they meet a man, Brian, who says he is interested in buying the factory. However, Henry tells him that it is not for sale and that he is going to make the factory into what it once was. That’s very ambitious, Brian says. Henry tells him that he is an ambitious man and Brian says that if he needs an investor, he should give him a call.

Back at the government facilities, Bellamy tricks Randy, a government official, by telling him that his bathroom door is stuck. When he gets inside the room, Bellamy sticks a needle in his back causing him to pass out. Bellamy then sneaks into Angela’s office where he finds his file on her desk. The file has his real name, Robert Thompson and the fact that he is a double returned.

“When were you going to tell me I died in 1934?” Bellamy says as Angela walks into her office. She tells him that she only pieced everything together that morning. Bellamy tells her that he wants to meet his birth parents and she tells him that he already has, the Thompsons. He says he wants to see them, but she informs him that because of the virus, they disappeared three days ago. He asks about the little girl Jenny, who is his older sister, and Angela informs him that Jenny is alive and well. She also tells him that he first returned in Chicago when he was 6 months old. It was assumed that he was abandoned, so he was given up for adoption.

Bellamy meets Jenny and makes a promise to her that he is going to take her back to Arcadia and look after her as soon as it’s safe. Jenny gives Bellamy a picture of her family, which includes Bellamy as a little baby.

Bellamy’s observation period is now over. Angela gives Bellamy 10 days worth of medicine to inject every 12 hours. She tells him she doesn’t have any more because it’s hard to make and they only have a limited supply.

When Bellamy gets back to Arcadia he visits Maggie and informs her about the visit with government. He also tells her that he’s sorry about her mom. He gives her the medicine and tells her he wants her to be in charge of distributing it to the returned.

Back at the Langston’s, Jacob is curious about what happened to his Aunt Barbara. He asks Margaret and she tells him that it was her time to go and she knew it, she just needed someone to help her. She adds that she had to lie because people who aren’t like them wouldn’t understand. “Am I going to have to go away?” Jacob asks. Margaret says that one day; they both are going to have to go away. Lucille (Frances Fisher) then comes in to tuck Jacob in. She asks Jacob what he and Margaret were talking about, but he lies saying nothing.

Lucille tells Henry that she worries about the ideas that Margaret is putting into Jacob’s head. Henry brushes it off, but says that he is going to make the call to Brian about the factory.

After Henry calls Brian, Brian is seen talking to a man, who he refers to as his grandfather. He tells the man that he just got off the phone with Henry Langston. The man mentions something about the Langston’s jumping at an opportunity where money is involved. This man looks extremely young to be a grandfather so he is likely a returned. Could he be one of the workers that died in the factory fire?
