Weird Al Yankovic snags Billboard 200 top spot with 'Mandatory Fun'

Weird Al Yankovic dominated album sales for the week ending July 20 with his latest release Mandatory Fun and finally scored his first No. 1 album. Jason Mraz trailed in a distant second with Yes!

With 104,000 sold copies, Weird Al easily snagged the top spot on the chart and also bested sales predictions of 80,000 copies. According to Billboard, in addition to finally debuting No. 1, Mandatory Fun also has the distinction of being the first comedy album in over 50 years to top the 200 chart.

"If you'd told me 30 years ago this would happen, I never would've believed it," the silly songwriter tweeted. "If you'd told me 2 WEEKS ago, I never would've believed it."

The last comedy album to get the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 was My Son, the Nut from Allan Sherman back in 1963.

Mraz, who also has never topped the chart before, lagged quite a ways behind with 81,000 sold copies of Yes!. With this album, he now has two No. 2 albums and his latest also oversold early predictions.

Preliminary numbers were almost on the money for the third spot with Rise Against's Black Market selling 51,000 copies for the week. Last week's No. 1, Sia's 1,000 Forms of Fear fell out of the top 10 after debuting last week at the top spot.

Kidz Bop 26 and the Frozen soundtrack rounded out the top five with 46,000 and 43,000 copies sold, respectively.
