Selena Gomez stirs up controversy with Gaza post

Yet another star has caused controversy with their comments on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, this time it is Selena Gomez.

Gomez posted an image on Instagram Friday with the caption. “Please pray for those families and babies today. Please always remember what’s important in life. It’s not any of this. We are here to help, inspire and love. Be that change. #wearethenextgeneration.”

The singer’s followers battled it out in the comments section of the photos. Some claimed to not be able to listen to Gomez’s music as a result of her comments, while others threatened to unfollow her and some praised her comments and said that she was right. The backlash bled over into other photos as well. A few hours after Selena’s “Pray for Gaza” post, she posted an unrelated selfie where fans continued to debate her previous post. One fan even called her an anti-Semite.
Hoping to clear the air, Gomez posted one final picture. This one was of a woman meditating on a beach. The caption read, “And of course to be clear, I am not picking any sides. I am praying for peace and humanity for all!”

This comes only a short time after singer Rihanna posted her own tweet regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. According to E! Online, Rihanna posted a tweet that said #FreePalestine but deleted it soon after. She then replaced the tweet with a photo of two Middle Eastern children hugging that said, "Let's pray for peace and a swift end to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict! Is there any hope?..."
