10-month-old Kansas child dies after being left in hot car by foster father

Another young child died after being left inside of a hot car, this time it happened when in Kansas.

A foster father, who claims that he forgot his 10-month-old was still in the car, was arrested by Wichita police on suspicion of aggravated endangerment, The Associated Press reports. The child was inside the car for more than two hours.

Lt. Todd Ojile, of the Wichita Police Department, has said the 29-year-old has not been formally charged yet.

The unidentified father picked up the young girl from a baby sitter on Thursday and when he arrived home, and somehow forgot she was in the car. He did remember to bring in his 5-year-old child, though.

The foster father's partner likely won't be charged, Ojile noted. "He believed all the children were downstairs playing. He did not know the child was outside."

According to CNN, the foster parents had three other children, ranging in age from 3 to 18 years old.

Kansas Department for Children and Families Secretary Phyllis Gilmore has said that all foster families involved with the agency that the couple went through be examined.

Already in 2014, KidsAndCars safety group says that 18 children have died after being left inside of a hot car.
