New York Knicks fined for Phil Jackson's comments on Derek Fisher

The New York Knicks were slapped with a $25,000 on Monday for tampering following comments new team president Phil Jackson made about being interesting in tapping Derek Fisher for the head coaching vacancy.

According to USA Today, the team was fined because of Jackson's comments in a recent press conference about how he is openly interested in speaking with Fisher once his season officially ended.

Newsday notes he talked openly about speaking to Fisher over the past two summers about his future.

The pair did not speak during the 2014 playoffs as Fisher was still with the Oklahoma City Thunder, but the NBA has rules preventing coaches and team executives from speaking about other teams' players. The fine was confirmed by league spokesman Tim Frank.

Sources told ESPN on Monday that Jackson and Fisher are set to have an informal conversation towards the end of the week regarding the latter's future.

Fisher was just eliminated on Saturday from the playoffs and has said that he needs time to figure out his plans and whether he will indeed retire like he previously indicated.

"I'm still struggling with the results of [the series]," Fisher said. "I haven't [had] a chance to talk to my wife and kind of step back emotionally from the end of the season."

Fisher's former team, the Los Angeles Lakers, are also reportedly interested in sitting down with the guard and talking about their coaching vacancy.
